Dr Nicola Zerbinati – professor of Dermatology and Venereology at the University of Insubria (Italy) and scientific Coordinator of the International Academy of Cosmetic Gynecology IACG – talks about Neauvia Stimulate in the last issue of Anti-Age magazine, the first magazine about anti-aging and aesthetic medicine.

Neauvia Stimulate is a PEG-crosslinked hydrogel with 1% calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres trapped in the mesh of the polymeric matrix (Fig.1), which prevents them from migrating or conglomerating after implantation.

Neauvia Hydrogel Matrix (NHM) is highly biocompatible, so there is only a mild inflammatory response and slow enzymatic degradation. The reduced degradation via enzymatic mechanisms and mechanical stress promotes an immediate and longer lasting corrective effect.

In addition, the modulated interaction of the lysosomes in the cell’s phagocytic system with the small hydroxyapatite calcium microspheres (10-12 micron) helps with stimulating fibroblasts to produce new extracellular matrix and collagen in particular.
The newly formed collagen, made up of fine, type III collagen fibrils, integrates harmoniously with the molecular elements of the extracellular matrix ground substance, with an effective additional supporting, filling and revitalizing action.

In vitro studies have documented the capacity of the new PEG-crosslinked filler to induce metabolic activation in fibroblasts, even at low concentrations of CaHA.
The reason behind this action probably lies in NHM’s high level of biointegration, which allows to create three-dimensional interstitial spaces that are fully integrated with the cellular and fibrillar structures in connective tissues.

This complete biointegration, with reduced inflammatory activity, is confirmed in vitro and in vivo. It allows Neauvia Stimulate to combine its high filling capacity (thanks to the hydrogel’s excellent rheological properties) with a documented stimulating action on the neocollagenesis process (Fig. 2, 3).

In both figures, red/orange areas represent old collagen fibres and green/yellow areas represent newly formed fibres. In the skin sample following Stimulate treatment, it is evident the high presence of green/yellow collagen fibres, representing newly formed fibres (collagen III).

The clinical indications of Neauvia Stimulate include the correction of deep flaws and, additionally, a further interaction through a biostimulating (non mechanical) pathway that involves the more superficial elements, regenerating also the fibrillar components of the dermis.
